Parent Reunification Drill

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Greetings from HUSKY NATION!  I hope that this note finds you and your family well.

To begin, as I reflect on the dutiful importance we place in planning, practicing and perfecting the procedures of our emergency management system, I am reminded of the words of our Lord: "Prepare and get ready, you and the company mobilized for you, but in my service" (Ezekiel 38:7). And as we respond to the call to care for your children, know well that it is drills like the one we have planned for Monday, September 28, which allow us to practice and perfect that which will enable a continuous review and evaluation of our safety plan and procedures.  For your reference, I have attached a document which includes specific details regarding our drill event, and as well, a map that describes the pick-up route for our safe staging site on the campus of Parkville High School. Although all of the necessary information is included on this document, please allow me to highlight a few of the more important items:

  • Sometime after 2:15pm, families will begin to receive a text/e-blast alert regarding the drill. At the point of receiving that communication, you are required to immediately pick up your child at Parkville High School.
  • As we will be sending out a time specific text to each of our alphabetical rotation groups, families are asked to go to Parkville once they receive the text alert for their child's pick-up group.
  • There will be NO AFTERNOON EXTENDED CARE provided on this day.
  • Please note that our students will NOT be bringing their book bags home with them after the drill event on September 28 (which is why we will not have assigned homework on that night).
  • Please send your child into school with a lunch that is completely disposable (brown-bag or plastic) and throw away water bottles. We do not want any lunch boxes to remain overnight in the classrooms which contain residual food items or leftover crumbs.
  • The students are asked to wear sneakers into school on that Monday. As well, there is a chance for a passing shower during points of the day. So as to prepare for the possibility of a little wet drizzle, the students are asked to bring in a raincoat or slicker.
  • Please make certain that you have completed the Dismissal Authorization Survey link by this Wednesday, September 23.
  • Whoever picks-up your child(ren) must have their name listed on the Dismissal Authorization survey and must arrive at Parkville H.S. prepared to show a photo ID card.
  • In case a question comes up regarding a non-parent pick-up, a school representative might need to contact you. As they will be using their personal cell phone during the drill, you may see the number come up as a "private". Therefore, please answer any "private" phone call that may come in that afternoon.
  • There will be Baltimore County Police Officers controlling the entrance and exits onto Putty Hill Avenue. On the Parkville campus, you will notice our faculty and staff directing traffic while wearing their light blue TEAM URSULA "Be the LIGHT" t-shirts.
  • Please know that in advance of Monday, the teachers will explain the drill to our students. However, it would certainly be helpful if you want to reinforce the message at home that we practice this drill for our safety, in the same way that we practice a fire drill each month.

We appreciate your taking the time to review the important attached documents. And as well, thank you in advance for your patient support on Monday as we conduct our first ever parent-reunification drill.
